Growing A Vanilla Orchid
It may surprise and interest the amateur to know that Vanilla is a genus of the orchid family. It is exceedingly difficult to grow, however, owing to its far-roving, vine-like habit of growth, and it infrequently flowers in the temperate zone. It is monopodial, epiphytic, and evergreen. It lacks pseudobulbs, but has heavy, fleshy leaves. The flowers are fairly large, but the plant must assume considerable size before it will flower. The seed pods are the source of vanilla.
